Deconstructing Whiteness in Leadership

The final session in the Navigating the Intersections series will focus on understanding the roots of whiteness in leadership and how to dismantle these oppressive scaffolding.

To work towards dismantling the standard of whiteness, we must first identify the deep-seated roots. The roots of whiteness in leadership spaces can be identified by key behaviors and characteristics that we will discuss in our in-depth case study that will keep all participants engaged through mock decision-making.

This session is designed for participants who hold decision-making power, either in community spaces or their workplace. We will focus on identifying how dominant decision-making practices are rooted in white supremacist belief systems, and how to actively dismantle your own biased decisions. Working on a real life case study, our engaging session will be effective for all leaders, including leaders of Color, who far too often, find their decisions being steered by white culture.

Through independent, small group and large group brainstorming and processing, participants will identify patterns of decision-making steeped in whiteness and strategies for moving towards more collaborative, holistic and inclusive leadership.
